Excited about traveling!

Ken and I are excitedly planning a trip to Washington DC as well as a day and night in Philadelphia and a drive to see the coast (in New Jersey) and over the Delaware and Chesapeake Bays. We have never been that way before and needless to say we are very excited.

We really love history and politics so these places are right up our alley! I have found a few spots that I have found very helpful in planning our trip they are:

Do you have any suggestions of things that we shouldn't miss seeing while we are there? I would love to hear your input!

  1. The Smithsonian Museums are a for sure stop. Especially the Museum of American History. If the kids are going along the Air and Space Museum is also fun. (just not my favorite, the boys loved it) The museums are free and you can either stay a few hours or all day long. Also, you don't want to miss the changing of the guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The boys say the best thing for them was the national cemetery. DC is one of our favorites.

  2. The Constitution Museum in Phila. is a must see. It is located in a very historic district in the city which is nice for a walking tour. The Jersey shore is very diverse, from Cape May to LBI. If you get near a Mack & Mango's pizza, don't pass without sampling.
I live halfway between Phila and the shore, so feel free to ask me questions. Enjoy!

  3. Oh, awesome. We're from MD! We are big fans of that area. Not sure if the kids are going or not, but if they are, the National Spy Museum in DC is fabulous! The inner harbor of Baltimore and the inner harbor of Annapolis are two of my favorites too. You guys will have so much fun.

  4. The museum of American History (the flag, first lady's inaugural ball dresses, etc.), Holocaust Museum, and all the regular places (monuments, Capitol, etc). That's so great that you guys are going. Have fun. We were only there for a couple of days, and we want to go back sometime for longer.

  5. Thank you all so much for your tips! We saw so much and it was fun to hear before we went what other people thought was worthwhile.

Jessica~ We did love the American History museum. We did check out the Air & Space one too (I thought we could skip it but Ken wanted to go). We did see Arlington Cemetary and the changing of the guard as well. It was so pretty there.

Angie~We loved the the historic district in Philly. We also enjoyed seeing the Jersey coast. I didn't see a pizza shop and we ended up with not a lot of time as we had scheduled to go on the ferry boat or I would have loved to stop.

Amy~ We did have a lot of fun! We didn't have the kids along this time, next time I hope they can come too. I would love to check out the places you mentioned then.

Esther~ I think we hit everything on your list, and totally enjoyed them. Though there was a very long line to see the dresses and Ken wasn't very interested and there was so much else to see that I just peeked in to see them. Next time I hope to see them better.
