Paper Projects - wrapping things up

The kids and I have had an agreement for several months now that we would use NO new wrapping paper (which I have hardly done for years anyway but some people were) but instead try to be creative and make our presents pretty by using things that would otherwise be thrown away or that could be reused in some other manner.
For a resent present that I gave (it was an odds and ends present with lots of various little objects) I decided it would be fun to use my old atlas to wrap with and some brown packing paper. I rather liked the combination and so I thought I would share pictures.

I even made map paper "ribbon" for the brown packages.

I do really like maps! They are so colorful and they make me think of traveling which I rather love to do!

Have you been making any paper projects lately? I would love to hear about them!

  1. This is a wonderful idea. Another good paper to use is the comic pages from the newspaper, especially the colored ones that come with the Sunday edition.

I'm trying to have a frugal yet ingenious celebration for my husband's birthday this year, and I think I will try the atlas idea. Maybe some pages from his old fishing magazines as well. Oh my, the possibilities are limitless!

  2. Great idea. I love old maps. The only problem I have is saving the paper scraps and then they are overflowing. I have a tiny house so this is an issue. If I don't use in 6 months I have to toss.

  3. I haven't bought wrapping since last year and I still have so much. I like reusing gift bags or sewing reusable gift bags to save tape.
