31 Days of Repurposing - Making Fairy Houses from Old Plastic Jars and Native Materials

This summer I thought it would be really fun to make some fairy houses to put in some fairy gardens that we could enter in the fair. Then I decided that it would be a fun project for my class at church so that meant making a lot of fairy houses that they could put in their gardens.
This is my favorite one that I made. You can't tell in this picture but the base was a plastic salsa bottle (with the top part cut off). The roof was a rectangle of plastic cut from a lid. Then I hot-glued pinecone pieces, birch bark, sticks and lichen over it. It was so fun to get creative.

One of my students with his garden. Our houses took up a lot of the space on some of them. :-)
This house above was a really rustic one made primarily with birch bark - nothing repurposed on it that I know of.
Here are more photos of my favorite that does have a base made of all "trash".
We also made swings and Mara created this cute little table and table settings for me.
Another house with bones that were all "trash". Using "trash" in your crafting really helps to keep cost low. :-)
This picture caught Mara's little birdhouse too so I thought it would be fun to share that with you as well. Pretty much everything that wasn't re-purposed was just stuff that we picked up outside. Even the plants were ones from the woods or from thinning my neighbor's garden (at her request! :-)

Anyway .... That was some fun we had with making fairy gardens this summer.

  4. Thank you ladies! We did have fun. I have enjoyed this trend of creating tiny things with articles from nature. When I was little I loved dreaming about little people (from the books the Littles and the Borrowers) now fairies are the "thing".
