I have an exciting post for today...
A Tropical Traditions Virgin Coconut Oil Giveaway!
Here is why I think it is exciting:
~You might win something! (I love winning giveaways.)
~ The prize is useful - It is very easy to use food and I am sure that you or (probably and) your family eat.
~It tastes great! I love the subtle flavor it adds to granola and stuff like that.
~It smells really good. Cheap coconut oil doesn't have much of a smell but this stuff smells really, really good!
~It is good for you. It is a natural and real food.
~ You can use it for things other than eating like: making toothpaste, deodorant, lotion bars, lip balm, soap and poultices - and I am sure more things that I have never tried- I would love to hear how you like to use it.
Tropical Traditions very kindly sent me a 32 oz. jar (and it comes in glass jars which my mother-in-law - an expert in health food- says is best) of coconut oil to try out.
Here are some of the ways we enjoyed using it:
~Making "Caramel Corn". My simple recipe is to use either 1/2 cup of butter or coconut oil, melt that and then add 1/2 cup of honey (another fun way to use our own honey) and stir that over 4 quarts of popped corn. Then toast it in the oven at 350 degrees until they turn golden brown. It is pretty quick and easy, uses natural ingredients and is a good treat when you need to serve someone with gluten, dairy and/or nut allergies.
~Making Granola Bars. I love this quick and easy no-bake recipe:
Combine: 1/2 cup peanut butter, 1/3 cup honey and 1/4 cup melted coconut oil (it becomes solid if it is cool).
Then mix in: 1 c. oatmeal and 1/2 cup coconut and then 1/2 - 3/4 cup or so of any mixture (or just one) of the following: Sesame seeds, chocolate chips, cocoa powder, raisins, wheat germ, wheat bran, ground flax seeds, sunflower seeds, etc.
Put in an 8 X 8 pan and cool in the fridge. Cut when cool.
~Making Granola.
~Making Biscuits.
and much more. I even ate a spoonful or so plain. :-)
Here is a video that shows even more ways you can use it:
Win 1 quart of Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil!

I tried to subscribe, and it said I already had an account. I must have signed up a long time ago! I couldn't sign back up for the emails without entering credit card info, which I didn't want to do right now. Hopefully that's okay! I have been looking into alternative oils to canola oil, which is what we have been using, and I really want to try coconut oil!
Thank you for the generous giveaway! I have had Coconut Vanilla Fudge made with coconut oil a few months ago and really enjoyed it. I am a Tropical Traditions subscriber and the first thing I'd make with the oil would be coconut brownies :)

We recently moved out west and the air here is incredibly dry. For this reason, one of my dogs is constantly licking and scratching. I recently heard that a scoop of coconut oil in his dog food would help recondition his skin, in addition to topically applying it to irritated areas. I would like to try this home remedy and see if it actually works.
I subscribe to Tropical Traditions weekly emails. I'm trying to use coconut oil to replace the canola oil I've used for so long. I'm going to try your granola bars next! They sound delicious!

Best Coconut Oil, Thank you, I appreciate it!
I subscribed. I so want to use coconut oil for almost everything. Due to my hubby not working we want to replace all those products that we buy at the store with homemade solutions, making coconut oil the base ingredient for most! It's what I use when cooking and baking...it's the all around good friend that we've recently discovered. A blessing from Yeshua(Jesus) absolutely! Mary

I also use the oil and coconut in my Visalus protein shakes everyday. The coconut oil is a wonderful skin care item. I use it instead of lotion. It is also a great hair conditioner. I put a little in my dog’s food everyday as well. These products are amazing! Love them!!!

I use the coconut oil to make my daily smoothie. I also use it to make my body and hair creams. I put it in my shampoo, conditioner and body wash. At night I put this oil on my face and neck (argan, coconut, apricot, grapeseed, advocado and almond oil.)
easy smoothie 1 banana 1orange 1slice or 1spoon or a couple of chunks of pineapple, 1/4cup of water; more or less depending on how thick you want it. coconut oil (2tablespoons, more or less depending on your tolerance) you can also use silk or blue diamond almond coconut milk if you have it. most of the time i use water. i don't count calories but don't need to add if i don't have to. i also cut fruits then freeze to eliminate ice. tastes like a tropical pina colada yummy. i only use 1/2 of fruits because i'm el cheapo and need them to last. if you have an Aldi's store, most of the time you can get a 4lb bag of oranges for $1.49 if you don't have an Aldi's, pull the store paper off the internet and take to walmart. they accept competitors newspaper ads. i also put a 1/2 tsp of cinnamon in my smoothie to avoid the insulin spike from sugar(sugar is sugar natural or not)my mom and brother have diabetes so i try to avoid it like the plague with preventatives. i even cook with cinnamon. google the great things about cinnamon
