Today I finally completed my big denim project for the month- a Frayed edge "quilt" (pieced but not quilted).
I cut squares (8 rows of 12 squares each) out of old jeans and then again the same amount of squares from old flannel shirts and putting their wrong sides together (the flannel and the denim) I sewed pieces into strips and then the strips together.
Above is how it looked before I washed it and below is after I washed it and after I cut of some of the really long strings.
I was having trouble getting good pictures but I do like the finished product. I am not sure if the frayed edges are my favorite as sometimes I don't think it looks truly done but it is different and fun.
This is what the flannel side looks like.
Yeah for projects that use up things that I had stashed. This will be another very usable blanket for our beds of for camping or whatever.
If you want a step by step quide for making one of these I found one here. I did it basically like this except I only used two layers of fabric (instead of their 4) and I skipped their step 9 where they clipped all the seams so that it would look more frayed.I cut squares (8 rows of 12 squares each) out of old jeans and then again the same amount of squares from old flannel shirts and putting their wrong sides together (the flannel and the denim) I sewed pieces into strips and then the strips together.

Did you put batting in between or is it just the two layers?
I love the idea of not quilting each set of blocks. That takes long time.
I have make many of these and my kids love them. They are great for camping. After my daughter got married she wanted one for a king bed that was my biggest one. I'm planning one for my grand daughter for winter. I always have old jeans around.

Wow, that's very impressive! I would love for you to link up at our party going on now http://herestohandyandy.blogspot.com/2012/01/pinteresting-link-party-week-23.html!
My mom made one of these for us years ago and it's our favorite blanket. How did you leave edges exposed for fraying? A step by step tutorial would be great!
Thanks everybody for your comments!
To answer questions:
I did not put batting between the layers thought I think you could.
I have now added a link in the post to a step by step quide that somebody else put together telling how to make a very similiar blanket.
