Storing up treasure

Our yard (photo done with a fun setting on my new camera)
"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in and steal; for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." Matthew 6:19 & 20

This is one of the verses that the kids and I have been memorizing as we memorize the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew and it is one that I think has a very good message. It is pretty easy for us to get caught up in earthly matters and thinking about taking care of our wants and needs here but our priorities really need to be on eternal matters. Who cares if we have investments galore and a nice home and everything we need if we have no thought put into preparing for heaven and making sure that we and others have our "tickets" there?

How can we practically store up treasures in heaven?
What about....
-Leading others to Christ. Relationships are important for this so spend time building those relationships with your children and anybody else that God has put into your life to minister to. Someday in heaven hopefully we will see the fruit of our labors in this area!
-Giving/Serving. Luke 12:33-34 would give us the idea that when we give to others we are then storing up treasure in heaven.
-Worship. That is something we can give to our Father who is in heaven.

I would love to hear your thoughts on storing up treasure in heaven!

Thank you for your posts and your ideas.I love that you show your love of Christ, speak boldly. I think Heaven is now its not a paradise we will go to if we do the right things, He has done it already, all things. The fruits of the spirit is living every moment knowing we cant live a christian life, we are unable. But He through us, as us that is the secret Paul spoke of...Christ in You the hope of glory. Bless you

Anonymous, Thank you for your encouraging words. I disagree that Heaven is now. When you look through the scripture it talks many times of heaven in the future after Jesus comes again and the judgement. We do get to be part of God's kingdom now (the church) and we do get the Holy Spirit to live in us now and help us but someday we will get to see Jesus face to face and I sure am looking forward to that day!
