A Quilt for a Contest

In the summer time making of projects slows down a little around here as we are traveling more as well as just being busy with gardening and such. Also when we do make projects sometimes I don't find time to blog about them. If that is your favorite part of this blog I apologize for not talking about it much lately.

It is project time around here now however as we are getting ready to enter things in the county fair next week. Every extra moment is spent working on projects (often while watching the summer Olympics as that is another favorite activity of ours) and so hopefully I will find time to blog about some of those projects soon!

This little quilt that we just made however is not for the fair but for a contest put on by our local sewing machine store. We have never entered before but after we bought our sewing machine last year we had heard about it and the great prizes being offered and the theme "Autumn in the Northwoods" sounded rather fun. There are also not a huge amount of entries so we hoped we had a chance.

After making the quilt (and especially after quilting it on the machine) however I realized that my skill is really probably not contest ready but we decided to go ahead and enter it and if by some amazing feat we should get one of the prizes we will be super excited- and it not- that is okay too.

The kids and I have been discussing the design for months now and had decided it would be fun to make it kind of personal and have one square for each child- featuring them doing a fall activity. Here are the squares....

Megan swinging under a fall tree.
Aaron camping- on of our favorite fall activities!
Jonathan raking- something he enjoys (especially the jumping int he piles afterwards!).

Mara harvesting things from the garden- a favorite activity of hers.

Do you do much making of projects during the summer or do you wait until cooler weather?

Do you enter things in your county fair?

I always love to hear from you!!

So cute!! All sewing has been at a standstill for me, but I have no excuses as to why. Summer has actually been much slower-paced, but I have just been enjoying being lazy and watching baseball.

I love it! All the more so because it features each of your children. Wow!

I always see your projects and wish I could do more. I want to learn more, and do more, but I just am trying to keep things going sometimes with my kids (6, 3, 5 months). I think I should set some tangible goals and that would help :)
