Tropcial Traditions Powdered Dish Detergent {Review and Giveaway}

Since I always enjoy trying out something that is useful and promotes good health I was quite happy to get to review Powdered Dish Detergent from Tropical Traditions. Since I have heard scary things about regular dishwasher soap, getting to try some that doesn't have those bad characteristics was something I was quite excited about.

Here is what Tropical Traditions has to say about it:
"Household Traditions Powdered Dishwasher Detergent is non-toxic and environmentally safe with no harmful by-products upon decomposition. Household Traditions Powdered Dishwasher Detergent does NOT contain chlorine, phosphates, fillers or fragrances. Household Traditions Powdered Dishwasher Detergent rinses away completely leaving no residue on your dishes so you get a clean, safe sparkle."

This all sounds really good but the real test was "Would it work?" I have tried some natural dishwasher detergents in the past but have not been completely satisfied, so when trying this I was hopeful but not very convinced that it would work well.

Well I am happy to say that so far (after around a week of using it) I am very, very happy with it!! I haven't done any scientific tests with each load being dirtied exactly the same way or anything like that but in my normal usage where I fill the dishwasher with our very dirty dishes (I don't rinse them because I had read that you don't need to) Tropical Traditions Powdered Dish Detergent has worked very well! In my opinion it has worked better than the regular stuff that I had before from Walmart. I am very, very pleased! The first time I used it I followed the directions and used a full 2 oz. scoop. That filled both my soap containers (in the dishwasher) up to the brim and after that I have just done 1/2 of a scoop and only filled one slot and it has still worked wonderfully!

If you want to read more about it, or if you would like to buy some for yourself you can check it out at Tropical Traditions. The normal price for their large jar of 5 lbs is $32.00 but right now it is on sale for $19.99.

Maybe you would like to try to win a jar?

Hi Abbi,

I've been enjoying your blog for awhile ~ thanks for taking the time to post! I'm a busy homeschool mom of 6 ~ we have been on a journey to eat healthier, use less and use more natural products. I'd love to give this product a try. We, too, have tried some "natural" dish detergent and it didn't work at all ~ the dishes came out just the same they went in almost. That was a waste of time & resources for sure.

Thanks for the review ~ even if I don't win, I may get some!

Hi Abbi,
What a great giveaway. I often make a mock dishwasher soap. I use a box of cascade a box of washing soda and then a box of borax. I mix it all and store it in a container. However I will say that requires me to use vinegar in that little side thing on the inside of the door because my glasses often have spots otherwise. It does help me lengthen the life of our detergent though.
What a great giveaway. thanks for hosting it

I struggle to get my glassware to come out sparkling clean. Too often there is food residue left on the insides of the glasses. I would LOVE to find a product that really works!
Thanks for the review!

I would love to try this detergent! My favorite tip for most detergetns (laundry, dishwasher, etc.), is to use about half the recommended amount. Repairmen have told me that the full amount is too much and can actually damage the machines. Plus, this is better for the budget as well! Thanks, Sara

Hi Abbi,

Dishwasher tip: If someone you love loads your dishwasher for you, even though it's not how you would do it, love them "anyway" and be thankful!
