Re-purposing Salt Tubs Week 2

When I started looking online for inspiration for using up salt tubs I didn't find all that many ideas. If I found anything at all it was generally the idea to make a pen/pencil holder. But one idea that I did run across - just a little sentence with no pictures- was the idea to make a butterfly from the pouring spout of the salt tub. That didn't sound overly useful but it sounded a little fun, and pretty easy so I decided to give it a try.

First I pulled out a couple of the spouts and made them fairly flat.
Then I cut one a little bit to try to improve the shape and then I hot glued them together. Next step was to take a piece of copper wire and twist it into the antennae shape. I glued that on and then added buttons down the middle.

Then I decided to add some more colorful buttons and some small beads for the open spots.
I decided it would make a cute magnet and so I added some magnets to the back.

It was a very quick little project and rather fun too.

Do you have any ideas for using salt tubs?

Hey Abbi, I've seen this idea before. It seems like it could be useful.

Brilliant!

I love it! I have a salt tub that's almost done and I may just have to make one of these from the spout....

Thanks for sharing,
Lea

MollyBea, I do think that looks neat and could be nice to do for some things.

That was a fun little project. I also read that you can cut the top of the salt tub to the dimensions of a canning jar lid and use the pour spout for items stored in a canning jar. Hope this makes sense! And thanks for sharing on the Art of Home-Making Mondays Abbi :)
