The Imagination Station Book Series Review and giveaway!

What fun it was for us to be asked to review the next two books in the Imagination Station Series! We had so enjoyed the first four books (Jonathan especially- I am not quite sure just how many times he has read them) and we quite excited about there being two more.

Here is what the two new books are about:

In Showdown with the Shepherd, Patrick and Beth go to the Holy Land in the tenth century BC. Their goal is to get back the ring Hugh stole and return him to 1450s England where he belongs. But troubles await them as soon as they step out of the Imagination Station. First they meet an angry bear and later an angry giant. Set against the backdrop of the David and Goliath story, the cousins learn that having a giant faith is more important than having a giant on your side.

Patrick and Beth’s next adventure leads them to Plymouth Plantation in 1621. There they meet William Bradford, Miles Standish, and Squanto who are trying to establish peace between the Pilgrims and the Indians. Things are anything but peaceful, however, when a musket is stolen and the Pilgrims conclude the Indians are planning war. Only Patrick and Beth know who the real thief is—the traitor Hugh—and it’s up to the cousins to find him and stop him from causing trouble. When the cousins hear a gunshot during the first Thanksgiving feast, their worst fears are realized.

Jonathan (age 10) again really enjoyed reading these books. As soon as they were available to him he took them and read them. When he was telling me about them I realized that the highlight as far as he is concerned is the whole mystery and action associated with the time travel and the Imagination Station. That is fine with me since I find the content quite wholesome and God centered. Obviously while enjoying the adventure he also reads about history as well. The history presented isn't that deep or complicated but still it is there and it will help to either introduce a child or reinforce something that they have already learned.

Besides Jonathan reading them, Mara also quickly read through them one afternoon and enjoyed them. They are pretty nice and easy reading. Which makes it nice for reading aloud for bedtime or nap time or just for fun. I have been doing a combination of reading aloud and having Aaron read to me for the younger kids.

I do very much recommend these books. If you want to find out more about them visit the Focus on the Family Website.  You will notice on the website that they have a 7th book coming out soon (and there is a 8th one soon to follow in 2012), the boys will be excited!

One of you can also enjoy these books (Showdown with the Shepherd and Problems in Plymouth) with your family as I have been allowed to host a giveaway too!

If you would like to try to win please leave a comment (make it interesting- not just I would like to win!) on this post and be sure to leave an e-mail address or some way in which I can contact you. This giveaway will run through November 19th. It is open to those in the US and Canada.
Contest is now closed and the winner is: Patriots of the Republic Academy. Congratulations!

These books look so neat. I just know that my kids would both love them, and I am thinking that it would help get my 6 year old really going on her reading. Thanks for the giveaway!

I would love to win these books for my son. It is so hard to find good books that will keep him interested enough to read. These books just might be the ticket!! Thanks for the opportunity.

I love Adventures in Odyssey! I started listening when I was young. I still remember some of the lessons: 1. Music affects you. Can you recite the words, Donna? 2. Right reason and wrong action (or vice versa) is still wrong!
